About the Event

This is a hands-on, full-day workshop for the designer who wants to elevate their technique and confidence with large-scale installations.

Rachel and Tobey will walk you through everything you need to know to better build, plan, price and order product for your large flower projects. With plenty of florals to practice and play with, we will do our hands-on learning while constructing a variety of large installations, each one using different mechanics and ensuring that students leave with plenty of new design options to start proposing to clients and practicing on their own.

Each student will also receive professional images of the completed designs that they may then showcase in their portfolio for personal and promotional use.

About Rachel Heath:

Rachel is a nature-loving city gal who loves getting her hands dirty and creating something new. Her joy for teaching and sharing tips is undeniable when working in classes with designers of all levels. As her degree in Humanities: Music Dance Theater, with a minor in English and her language certificate in Italian will attest, Rachel is lifelong student who wants learn everything and try everything. Before flowers she was working as a marketing manager and event coordinator in books and publications, but decided to leave her corporate job to dip her toes in flowers and design. Now with seven years of professional floristry experience behind her, Rachel owns and operates Trill Flora, and is the founder of The Flower Box. Her favorite designs are often large installations. She has studied with Ariella Chezar, Holly Chapel, Max Gills, Joseph Masie, Alicia Schwede AND TOBEY NELSON, among others. If she's not in her home studio or office, she's probably inside, wearing her favorite slippers, trying to feed her twin babies, eating cold pizza, and playing make-believe with her oldest daughter.

About Tobey Nelson:

Tobey Nelson is a generous instructor who loves to share her knowledge. She is known not only for her commitment to sustainable floristry, but also for her direct way of communicating, and for her proclivity to randomly adopt  accents. Tobey has a BS in Landscape Horticulture from Michigan State University circa 1993. She spent over 20 years as a professional horticulturist, running a landscape design & maintenance company. In 2010 she founded her floral business. From the beginning Tobey has specialized in weddings, and has been committed to working without floral foam and with a focus on sourcing locally grown flowers. Tobey has studied with Tomas deBruyne, Gregor Lersch, Hitomi Gilliam, Francoise Weeks, Susan Mcleary and many others along the way. When she's not playing with flowers (or answering emails or scheduling social media posts), she can be found in her garden, or playing with her husband, sons and dog.
